Save the Sand Dunes: Volunteers Needed for Conservation Effort in Perranporth

Perranporth, Cornwall – Nature enthusiasts and locals are being called to lend a hand in preserving the natural beauty of Penhale Dunes in Perranporth. Cornwall Wildlife Trust is organising a volunteer day on Thursday, 22nd August, as part of their ongoing effort to protect the area’s delicate ecosystem.

Protecting Native Species

The volunteer session, led by Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s Andy Nelson, will focus on removing sea buckthorn, an invasive plant species that threatens the native flora in the dunes. Sea buckthorn was first removed from the area a few years ago using a mechanical digger, and since then, volunteers have regularly returned to keep the regrowth in check. The upcoming session is a continuation of these efforts to ensure that native species have the space they need to flourish.

Get Involved

The event will take place behind the Watering Hole, starting at 10 am and running until 2 pm. Volunteers are encouraged to join for as long as they can, even if only for a portion of the day. Breaks will be included, allowing participants to rest and enjoy the stunning scenery while contributing to a worthy cause.

Anyone interested in participating is encouraged to reach out to Andy Nelson via email at andy.nelson@cornwallwildlifetrust.org.uk for further details.

This volunteer day is a great opportunity to make a tangible difference to the local environment while enjoying the outdoors. The trust hopes to see a strong turnout to support this important work in conserving the Penhale Dunes.
