Cliff Fall Reported at Porthcothan Beach: Public Urged to Stay Clear
Visitors to Porthcothan Beach are being urged to stay well back from the cliffs following a recent rock fall next to the old steps on the left-hand side of the beach.
Multiple Rock Falls Reported
HM Coastguard Padstow has confirmed that there have been a number of rock falls in the area recently, with the latest occurring at Porthcothan. The update was shared on Facebook on Tuesday 5th August, with imagesprovided by St Eval Parish Council.
A post from HM Coastguard Padstow stated:
“Please beware, there has been a cliff fall on the left hand side of the beach, next to the old steps.
Please do not sit or stand near there, or let your children or dogs play near here, this is not safe.”

Coastguard Safety Advice
The coastguard also reminded the public of the risks around cliffs, adding:
“Cliffs are often more unstable than they look, and rockslides or cliff falls can happen at any time. Stay safe, keep well back from cliff edges and a good distance from the bases of cliffs.”
The Coastguard gave a reminder to stay ‘Coast Clever’ and follow HM Coastguard’s advice.
If you’re heading to the coast, keep a safe distance from cliff edges and avoid walking or sitting near the base of cliffs.
