£7,000 Raised at Porthleven Lifeboat Day: A Huge Success for RNLI’s 200th Anniversary
Porthleven’s community spirit was on full display yesterday as the town came together to celebrate 200 years of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) at the Porthleven Lifeboat Day. The event, which was held to support the vital work of RNLI volunteers, raised an impressive £7,000.
A Day of Celebration
The Lifeboat Day drew in crowds from across the region, all eager to enjoy the festivities and show their support for the lifesaving charity. The funds raised will go directly towards supporting the RNLI’s ongoing efforts to save lives at sea. The RNLI, founded in 1824, has a long and proud history of rescuing those in danger on the waters around the UK and Ireland, and events like this are crucial to maintaining their lifesaving services.
Lifesaving Work Continues
While the community enjoyed the day’s activities, the volunteer lifeboat crews were still hard at work. At 18:06, just after returning from Porthleven, the crew of Penlee Lifeboat’s Atlantic 85 responded to a call for assistance. Later in the night, the Severn Class lifeboat was also launched for another rescue operation. These incidents serve as a stark reminder of the importance of the RNLI’s work and the ongoing need for public support.
A Big Thank You
The RNLI expressed their gratitude to everyone who attended the Lifeboat Day and contributed to its success. The support from the community is what powers the RNLI’s volunteer lifeboat crews, enabling them to continue their vital work. The funds raised will help ensure that these brave volunteers can continue to operate safely and effectively, ready to respond whenever they are needed.
As the RNLI celebrates its 200th anniversary, events like Porthleven Lifeboat Day are a testament to the enduring bond between the organisation and the communities it serves. The £7,000 raised is not just a financial contribution; it’s a show of solidarity and support for the men and women who risk their lives to save others at sea.
