The Basset Arms Reopens in Portreath Following Full Refurbishment
The Basset Arms in Portreath has officially reopened its doors after a full refurbishment by the Carbis Bay Collection, offering a refreshed take on the traditional Cornish pub experience.
A Historic Pub with a New Lease of Life
Located in an 18th-century building just steps from the beach, The Basset Arms has long been a part of Portreath’s heritage. The pub’s relaunch brings new life to the historic site, combining original character with a new level of hospitality, food and service.
Stephen Baker, owner of the Carbis Bay Collection, said:
“We are excited and proud to reintroduce the Basset Arms to the community. Our goal has been to preserve the traditional character of the pub whilst enhancing the overall guest experience. We look forward to welcoming patrons old and new through our doors.”
A New Menu from the Carbis Bay Estate’s Executive Chef
The new food offering has been developed by Andrew Houghton, Executive Chef at the Carbis Bay Estate, and focuses on traditional British fare and Cornish favourites. Dishes include West Coast mussels, Cornish crab and Stargazy pie, alongside pub classics like battered hake, steak and burgers.
A thoughtfully selected drinks list complements the menu, featuring locally brewed ales, fine wines and regional spirits.
Refurbished Inside and Out
The renovation includes updates to both the interior and garden spaces. Inside, the pub retains its period charm with improved comfort and style. Outside, the redesigned garden now offers a welcoming space for outdoor dining, socialising and planned events.
Rooms for an Overnight Stay
The Basset Arms also features three coastal-inspired ensuite bedrooms, each with king-size beds, fluffy towels, Bamford bathroom essentials, tea and coffee, Wi-Fi and free parking. Prices start from £200 per night during high season.
A spokesperson said:
“We are strongly focused on giving our guests the best experience of a traditional Cornish pub stay with some extra special treats, such as you would associate with the Carbis Bay Collection.”
What’s Next for The Basset Arms?
The relaunch marks the beginning of a new chapter for the seaside pub, with plans for community events and seasonal promotions in the months ahead.
