A Festival Designed by Young People, for Young People

East End Park in Redruth will be transformed on Saturday 30th August for the town's first-ever Youth Fest, a free event packed with activities and entertainment for young people aged between 11 and 18. Running from 12pm to 6pm, the festival has been shaped directly by Redruth's Youth Councillors, who worked alongside Town Councillors to create the line-up.

Charlotte Caldwell, Redruth Town Clerk, said: "Youth Fest is a real celebration led by young people for young people. All of the events have been thoughtfully curated by our Communications Team, with the suggestions coming directly from our fabulous Youth Councillors, with support from our Town Councillors."

Skateboarding, Circus Skills and Nature Workshops

Highlights of the day include a Skatejam led by Team Rubicon, Circus Workshops with aerial demonstrations from Cirk Hes, and a Community Weave by local artist Olga Owczarek.

For those with an interest in nature, Buglife will return with their popular bug hunts, while Cornwall Butterfly Conservation will run drop-in sessions celebrating butterflies. Blue light services including the police and fire service will also be in attendance, giving young people the chance to see emergency vehicles up close.

Live Music and Performances

A mainstage will showcase young talent throughout the afternoon, with the headline act Blue Touch Paper closing the event. Between sets, young comperes will take the microphone, building confidence and engaging with the crowd.

Cheerleading will also take centre stage, as Westcoast Academy performs a series of demonstrations in the sports area.

Izzy, Chair of Redruth Youth Council, said: "It has been amazing watching our suggestions for the festival become a reality, and we hope to see as many young people enjoying Youth Fest as possible! As Youth Councillors, we are as passionate about Redruth and how we can make the town and parish better for young people. This festival is just one of many things we hope to do for the young people of Redruth."

A Partnership for the Future

The event has been supported by the National Lottery's Community Fund and marks the growing partnership between Redruth Town Council and the Youth Council.

Charlotte added: "It has been inspiring working with our Youth Councillors, who have worked extremely hard to make sure the youth festival is an inclusive event for all to enjoy. Following our Youth Councillors' participation at Cornwall Council's Article 12 Celebration Day, Redruth Town Council voted to work more closely with Redruth Youth Council to consult and keep Youth Councillors informed of decisions made by the full council. We hope the youth festival is just one of many ways we can work together for the benefit of residents."
