On Sunday, 10th March 2023, the Falmouth volunteer inshore lifeboat team sprang into action following a distress call.
At precisely 3:26 pm, the crew received a page from the Falmouth Coastguard, instructing them to search for a partially sunken small motorboat. The vessel, which had been spotted drifting off Trelissick Gardens in the Carrick Roads by a concerned member of the public, posed a potential hazard to other river users.
The team launched the Atlantic 85 lifeboat, named ‘Robina Nixon Chard,’ at 3:33 pm and swiftly arrived on scene at 3:52 pm after a short search. Upon assessing the situation, the crew determined that the boat had not been in use for some time. Despite this, the condition of the boat presented a clear danger to the safe navigation of other vessels on the river.
Taking quick action, the volunteer crew pumped water out of the motorboat, successfully refloating it. They then towed the vessel to a location deemed safe by the Coastguard. Once the Coastguard was satisfied with the outcome of the operation, the lifeboat was released from service at 4:22 pm and returned to the station 25 minutes later.
This successful rescue operation highlights the dedication and skill of the volunteer lifeboat crew in Falmouth, who are always ready to respond to emergencies on the water. The community is encouraged to support the life-saving work of the Falmouth Lifeboat by making donations through their Just Giving page, ensuring they can continue their vital services.
