In a remarkable display of dedication and skill, a volunteer at Newquay’s RNLI station has achieved a significant milestone in the station’s training programme.

Richie Law, a respected member of the RNLI team, has successfully qualified as a tractor driver for the charity’s Talus MB-4H amphibious tractor, marking a record time in training completion for the role.

Joining the Crew

Richie’s journey with the RNLI began in November 2022 when he joined the Newquay team as part of the shore crew. With a commitment to serve and a passion for the RNLI’s life-saving mission, Richie quickly demonstrated his dedication to the cause. His journey took a significant turn in July 2023, when he applied for the position of Launch Vehicle Driver and was successful in securing the role, a pivotal moment that set the stage for his remarkable achievement.

Training Triumphs

Richie’s training commenced with the New Holland tractor, where he showed exceptional aptitude by passing out within weeks. His accomplishments didn’t stop there; training on the Talus MB-4H amphibious tractor began in earnest, culminating in Richie passing out last week with flying colours. His success in the training programme is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and the rigorous preparation he undertook.

A Record-Breaking Achievement

Notably, Richie, who also serves in the military, has been recognised for his loyalty and dedication as a volunteer. His consistent attendance at training exercises has paid off, leading him to become the quickest person ever to pass out as Launch Vehicle Driver at Newquay RNLI. This record-breaking achievement underscores the effectiveness of the RNLI’s training programmes and the commitment of its volunteers.

Praise from the Team

Wayne Martin and Graham Mountford, responsible for launch vehicle training at Newquay Lifeboat Station, have lauded Richie for his effortless performance throughout the training process. Their commendation reflects the high standards expected of RNLI volunteers and the supportive environment that fosters their development.

The entire team at Newquay RNLI has expressed immense pride in Richie’s accomplishments. His journey from joining the shore crew to becoming a qualified launch vehicle driver embodies the spirit of dedication and service that is at the heart of the RNLI’s mission to save lives at sea.

Richie’s achievement is not only a personal milestone but also a source of inspiration for current and future RNLI volunteers, highlighting the impact of commitment and hard work in achieving excellence in life-saving operations.
