Royal Cornwall Show runs 5th to 7th June

Police are preparing for thousands of visitors to descend on Wadebridge this week for the Royal Cornwall Show, with extra patrols planned both at the showground and on key roads.

The popular three-day event, which takes place from Thursday 5th to Saturday 7th June, draws huge crowds to the area every year. Officers from Devon & Cornwall Police will be out in force throughout the event to help keep everyone safe.

Inspector Adam Stonehill, who leads the local Neighbourhood Policing Team, said:
“The event draws thousands of people to Cornwall every year – it’s an amazing sight to see and the event always has a great atmosphere.”

“Whilst we anticipate this to be a peaceful event as usual, due to the huge influx of people visiting, we know how important it is for us to be visible to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.”

“Our presence isn’t about expecting any trouble, but it’s about showing our commitment to keeping the public safe and connecting with our communities.”

Foot patrols and road checks planned

During the event, officers will be patrolling on foot within the showground and surrounding areas. Vehicle patrols will also take place on key link roads to help keep traffic moving and monitor road safety.

Heavy traffic is expected on all three days of the show. Those planning to attend are being encouraged to plan ahead.

Police stand returns to the show

Devon & Cornwall Police will again have their own stand inside the showground, giving the public the chance to meet local officers, ask questions and pick up crime prevention advice.

Activities planned at the stand include fingerprint keyring making and speed reaction tests using the popular ‘Batak Board’.

Inspector Stonehill added:
“If you are attending the show, have a fantastic time and remember to drive carefully, drink responsibly and act safely.”
“If you need to talk to us about something you have seen, or whether it’s just to simply chat to us and meet your local officers then please do so – that’s what we’re here for. Please enjoy yourself if you’re able to go, it’s a great family event.”

Drink driving warning after arrests last year

Those planning to drink alcohol at the show are being urged to have a plan in place to get home safely. Last year, five people were arrested for drink driving in connection with the event. Police are reminding attendees to nominate a designated driver or arrange alternative transport.

How to report concerns

If you see anything suspicious or witness crime or anti-social behaviour at the show, report it straight away to event security or the police officers on site.
In an emergency or if there is an immediate risk to life, call 999.
