Police Increase Patrols in Saltash to Address Youth Antisocial Behaviour

Increased Patrols in Response to ASB Concerns

Police in Saltash have been stepping up patrols in response to growing concerns about antisocial behaviour (ASB) involving young people.

The local neighbourhood policing team has been tackling reports of disruptive behaviour in public spaces, including swearing, shouting and general disorder. Officers say this has been causing alarm to passers-by.

Regular patrols are now being carried out at peak times and locations across the town. These are aimed at increasing police visibility and encouraging conversations with young people in a bid to build trust and deter poor behaviour.

“This isn’t about going after young people”

PC Pip Davey, who is leading the work, said: “The majority of young people in our communities are an absolute credit to Saltash. However, we recognise that there are a small minority who have been causing disruption, which has caused some concern for local people.

“We’re not doing this to ‘go after’ young people. We just want to make sure everyone in our community is enjoying what Saltash has to offer safely and respectfully, without individuals’ behaviour impacting negatively on anyone else. This goes for everyone, no matter their age.”

Workshop Planned to Give Young People a Voice

Police are now working with local organisations to organise a future workshop that aims to give young people the opportunity to share their views. The idea is to listen to their thoughts on community safety, what needs improving, and how organisations can better support them.

PC Davey added: “Whilst there is no ‘quick fix’ and we recognise that there is still more work for us to do to prevent ASB from happening across our communities, I hope the impact of our work so far has been felt.

“This is a journey, but we’re committed to making sure we’re doing all that we can to keep local people – including young people – safe.”

How to Report Concerns

The police say they rely on public reports to help them respond to ASB and crime.

To report anything, call 101 or use the online form on the Devon & Cornwall Police website.

In an emergency or if a crime is in progress, always call 999.
