Saltash Town Council Increases Festival Fund to Support Public Events
In a recent move to bolster the vibrant community life in Saltash, the Town Council has announced a significant increase in funding for public events. During the Full Town Council meeting on February 1st, 2024, a unanimous decision was made to raise the Festival Fund limit to £2,500 per day, allowing for a maximum of two days per event. This decision reflects the Council’s recognition of the escalating costs associated with organising public events and its commitment to maintaining the tradition of hosting valued gatherings in the town.
Mayor of Saltash, Councillor Richard Bickford, expressed his satisfaction with the Council’s decision, stating, “I am pleased that we are able to extend our support for large, free events in our town. I believe this shows considerable commitment and we hope that this helps to put them on a more secure financial footing.” This enhancement of the Festival Fund aims to ensure that hallmark events such as the Saltash Regatta, May Fair, Christmas Festival, and the Tincombe Tea Party can continue to thrive and bring joy to the community.
Saltash Town Council offers two primary funding opportunities: the Festivals Fund and the Community Chest Fund. The Festivals Fund, in particular, has been instrumental in supporting many popular events throughout the town in recent years. With this increase in funding, the Council hopes to provide a more substantial foundation for these events, ensuring their sustainability and success in the face of rising operational costs.
Residents and event organisers seeking further information on grants awarded or available funding are encouraged to visit the Saltash Town Council website or to get in touch directly with the Council. This funding boost is poised to not only preserve but also enrich the cultural and social landscape of Saltash, ensuring that the town remains a lively and engaging place for both residents and visitors alike.
