South West Water Expands £200m Support Package for Customers This Winter
South West Water has confirmed it is increasing financial support for customers this festive season, with a £200 million package designed to expand help already reaching around 125,000 people across the South West.
The move comes as households face continued cost of living pressures, with families typically spending significantly more in the run-up to Christmas. The Bank of England has previously highlighted that the average family spends an extra £700 during the festive period on gifts and celebrations.
£200 Million Package to Tackle Water Poverty
The £200 million support package was announced earlier this year and sits alongside South West Water’s commitment to eradicate water poverty by 2030. The aim is to ensure every customer can access affordable water bills, particularly during challenging financial periods.
Support available includes discounted tariffs, payment assistance, water efficiency advice, benefits entitlement checks, and the proactive identification of customers who may be struggling.
Support Already Reaching 125,000 Customers
According to the company, around 125,000 customers are currently benefiting from its support measures. Work is ongoing to move customers who receive benefits or are on lower incomes onto the lowest possible tariff based on their circumstances.
Lesley Horn, Customer Care Manager at South West Water, said:
“We know how challenging the festive period can be financially and the last thing we want is for our customers to spend this special time worrying about their water bills.
“This December, and throughout the year, we’re committed to ensuring all our customers — especially those in vulnerable circumstances — receive the support they need.
“Our brilliant colleagues work hard all year round to deliver a service they can be proud of and always strive to put customers at the heart of everything we do.
“Around 125,000 customers now benefit from the support packages we offer, and we are working proactively to move customers in receipt of benefits or on lower incomes onto the lowest possible tariff for their circumstances.”
Investment in Local Communities
Alongside household support, South West Water is also investing £5 million into its Better Futures programme. This funding supports community groups focused on wellbeing, education and environmental resilience, helping support reach both individual households and the wider communities they are part of.
