Spaceport Cornwall Hosts Hackathon to Tackle Environmental Challenges
In an exciting collaboration, Spaceport Cornwall, KISPE, and the University of Exeter have joined forces to launch an innovative hackathon aimed at engaging young tech enthusiasts. Scheduled for Saturday, 17th February, from 10:00 to 16:00 at Spaceport Cornwall in Newquay, the event invites individuals aged 14 and above to participate in a challenging and educational experience.
As part of the Software Cornwall’s Festival of Tech, this unique hackathon provides a hands-on opportunity for participants to work with Raspberry Pi and Arduino technologies. The focus of the event is the Kernow Sat 1 satellite, from which participants will attempt to hack into and retrieve maritime and conservation data. This data collection effort is not just an exercise in technical skill but has the potential to aid in real-world environmental decision-making.
The initiative aims to inspire and educate young people about the possibilities of technology and its application to pressing environmental issues. By offering a practical experience with actual satellite data, the organisers hope to foster a deeper understanding of how technology can be harnessed for the greater good.
This event is a testament to the collaborative spirit of the tech community in Cornwall and its commitment to leveraging technology for environmental conservation. Participants will have the chance to learn something new, challenge themselves, and possibly contribute to important environmental research.
For those interested in making a difference and exploring the frontiers of technology, the hackathon at Spaceport Cornwall presents a perfect opportunity.
