Alex Everett Named Cornish Pirates Captain for 2025/26 Season

The Cornish Pirates have confirmed that Alex Everett will take on the role of Club Captain for the 2025/26 season.

Alex steps into the position while John Stevens continues his recovery and works towards full fitness.

From 2022 Signing to Team of the Season

The abrasive back rower joined the Pirates in the summer of 2022 and has since made 69 appearances, crossing the line for 9 tries. His consistent performances were recognised in the 2023/24 Championship Team of the Season, which followed the club’s highest ever second place league finish.

“The Obvious Choice”

Joint Head Coach Gavin Cattle described the appointment as a clear decision.

“We’re really pleased to appoint Alex as Club Captain this season. He has been a standout player for us in the past few seasons. He leads by example with his actions, is calm and has good relationships with the officials, so it was the obvious choice as John Stevens works his way back to full fitness in the new year. There’s a good spine of leadership in the team with the likes of Arwel Robson, Joe Elderkin, Morgan Nelson, Josh King, Dan Hiscocks, so he’ll be well supported in that regard.”

Everett’s Pride in the Role

Alex spoke of his excitement at being given the captaincy.

“It’s a huge honour to be named Club Captain at Pirates. John has left some huge shoes to fill but I think the playing group is in a really good place to use last year as a springboard to challenge at the top end of the table and I’m excited to see where we go. Across the squad we’re all excited to get stuck into the season and get the Mennaye bouncing!”
