Coby Nichol Makes a Return to Cornwall RLFC from Swinton Lions Loan
Cornwall RLFC’s versatile utility back, Coby Nichol, has unexpectedly returned to the Memorial Ground, cutting short his loan spell with Betfred Championship side Swinton Lions. Originally set to stay with Swinton until the end of the season, Coby is now back in the Choughs’ ranks and available for selection in Sunday’s crucial Betfred League 1 round 21 clash against Midlands Hurricanes.
A Short-Lived Loan Move
Coby joined Swinton Lions on loan just before the transfer deadline day, with hopes of gaining experience at a higher level. However, the loan period has been cut short, and Coby is back with Cornwall RLFC. While the reasons for the early return have not been disclosed, head coach Mike Abbott expressed his support for Coby’s decision and welcomed him back to the squad.
“Coby went to Swinton with our very best wishes,” said Mike. “We will never stand in the way of a player that wants a crack at a higher level. But we always keep the door open for players if they wish to return. For whatever reason, it hasn’t quite worked out for Coby at Swinton.”
Looking Ahead
With Coby back in the squad, Cornwall RLFC is gearing up for the final stretch of the season. The team faces three more games, starting with the home fixture against play-off contenders Midlands Hurricanes. Mike is optimistic about Coby’s contribution, stating, “He is back with us for the rest of the season, and with three games to go, we can’t wait to welcome him back to the fold.”
Coby’s return adds depth to the team as they push for a strong finish in the Betfred League 1 campaign. Fans will be eager to see how his presence influences the upcoming matches and whether this change can help Cornwall secure a positive end to their season.
