Cornish Pirates Kick Off the Season with Popular ‘Meet the Players’ Event
A Promising Start to the Season
On Thursday evening, fans and sponsors of the Cornish Pirates gathered for the much-anticipated annual ‘Meet the Players’ event, which once again proved to be a hit. The evening commenced with supporters being treated to a display of the team’s pre-season training at the Mennaye Field, where the squad showcased their skills and determination.
Following the on-field action, attendees moved to the Yeomans marquee, where they were welcomed with a free hog roast, generously provided by Roseworthy Farms, and beer courtesy of St. Austell Brewery. This gathering provided a relaxed atmosphere for fans, sponsors, and players to interact.

New CEO Takes the Stage
The evening also marked the introduction of Sally Pettipher, the new CEO of the Cornish Pirates. Joint head coach Alan Paver welcomed Sally, who spoke passionately about her dedication to the team and expressed her gratitude to everyone who supports the Pirates, including the various sponsors that make such events possible.
A Warm Welcome for New and Returning Players
PA announcer Phil Westren took the opportunity to officially welcome everyone to the event and paid tribute to the achievements of last season’s squad and coaching team. He also introduced the new squad members, who were met with applause as they stood and waved to the crowd. In an exciting revelation, Phil announced that former prop Jay Tyack had signed a contract for the upcoming season, news that was well-received by all present.

John Stevens to Captain the Team Once Again
In a moment of anticipation, joint head coach Gavin Cattle confirmed that John Stevens would continue as the team captain for the upcoming season.
