Cornish Pirates, Kyle Moyle, the dynamic full-back and wing, is set to retire from full-time professional rugby after a distinguished career.

The Cornish Pirates have announced that Kyle, aged 31, will leave the sport at the end of the season to pursue a new path in the construction industry.

A Stellar Career

Emerging from the youth ranks of Penzance & Newlyn RFC, Kyle was among talented peers like Luke Cowan-Dickie and Jack Nowell. He first made waves in December 2012, debuting for the Cornish Pirates in a British & Irish Cup match against Swansea, where his team triumphed 30-10. Despite early setbacks due to injuries, Kyle’s ability to dazzle on the field with his speed and scoring prowess soon caught the attention of top-tier clubs.

Premiership Highlights

Kyle’s potential led him to the Premiership, where he signed with Gloucester Rugby on a short-term deal in November 2020. His impressive performances quickly secured him a full-time contract by January 2021. During his tenure with the ‘Cherry & Whites’, Kyle made 43 appearances, further solidifying his reputation as a top-level player.

Returning to Roots

In the 2023/24 season, Kyle made a significant return to the Cornish Pirates, adding 13 more matches to his record. With a potential appearance this Saturday at home against Coventry, he is poised to reach the milestone of 150 games for the club—a testament to his enduring talent and commitment.

Tribute from the Coach

Gavin Cattle, joint head coach of the Cornish Pirates, praised Kyle’s contributions both on and off the field. “Kyle proved himself a fantastic player, who deservedly earned his chance to play for Gloucester in the Premiership, before completing a full circle when making a welcome return to his hometown club,” he stated. Gavin also highlighted Kyle’s mentorship role with younger players, noting how he has passed on his skills to emerging talents like Will Trewin and Arthur Relton.

Farewell to a Rugby Favourite

As Kyle transitions from the rugby pitch to construction sites, both his teammates and fans will undoubtedly miss his presence. His journey reflects not only personal growth but also the indelible impact he has had on both his peers and the sport itself. As he prepares for his next chapter, the rugby community bids farewell to a player who has been as much a gentleman off the field as he has been a fierce competitor on it.
