In a strategic move to strengthen their squad, Cornish Pirates have acquired the services of hooker Iestyn Harris from Exeter Chiefs on a loan deal. This decision comes in the wake of injuries to their regular hookers during last Friday’s clash against Ealing Trailfinders.

The Cornish Pirates faced a setback in their recent match in the Championship league when they suffered a 26-17 defeat at home to league leaders Ealing Trailfinders. The game saw their hookers, Morgan (knee injury) and Rhys (failed Head Injury Assessment), leaving the field, which created an urgent need for reinforcements in this position.

Swift Response

Addressing the gap, the Cornish Pirates acted promptly to secure 25-year-old Iestyn, a talented player noted for his performance with the Wales under 20s and a recent stint at Cardiff Rugby before joining Exeter Chiefs in April 2022. The loan move is seen as a crucial step to maintain the team’s competitiveness in the league.

A Warm Welcome

Alan Paver, joint head coach of the Cornish Pirates, expressed his optimism about the new addition: “Obviously, with the injuries that we have had from the last game it has been important that we bring someone in to fill that space and, thanks to the support of Exeter Chiefs, Iestyn is that man. He has been earmarked as a talented player who has just come back from injury, so we are looking forward to seeing him down at the Mennaye and integrating him accordingly.”

Looking Ahead

With Iestyn’s arrival, the Cornish Pirates are hopeful that his inclusion will provide the necessary stability and skill set required to navigate through the tough fixtures ahead. The Mennaye Field will be a new proving ground for Iestyn as he integrates into his temporary squad, aiming to make an immediate impact and help the Pirates climb the Championship league standings.

The team and their supporters will be eager to see how quickly Iestyn can adapt to his new surroundings and contribute to the Cornish Pirates’ ongoing campaign. His experience and vigour will be vital as the Cornish Pirates aim to recover from their recent setbacks and push towards a successful season.
