Cornish Pirates Welcome Back Prop Jay Tyack for New Season

In a significant boost to their squad, the Cornish Pirates have announced the return of prop Jay Tyack for the upcoming season. Truro-born and now 28 years old, Jay is set to bring his experience and strength back to the Pirates, a team he first joined in 2014 as a member of the Player Development Foundation.

A Journey Back to the Pirates

Jay’s journey has seen him play across different levels of rugby, including a stint in New Zealand, before returning to England to continue his development in the National League. His previous tenure with the Cornish Pirates saw him make 31 appearances across the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons. One of the standout moments during this time was his participation in the historic 25-17 victory over Saracens in March 2021.

After his successful spell with the Pirates, Jay moved on to join Premiership side Worcester Warriors. However, following the club’s unfortunate liquidation in October 2022, Jay found himself on the move again. A successful trial with Bristol Bears followed, but last season proved challenging due to injury and illness, which limited his playing time.

A Welcome Return

Now fully fit and ready to take on new challenges, Jay has rejoined the Cornish Pirates, where he is expected to play a key role in the team’s upcoming campaign. Joint head coach Alan Paver expressed his excitement about Jay’s return, highlighting the valuable experience he has gained in recent years.

“Jay was with us early in his career before going away and gaining a lot of experience, building in recent years to playing in the Premiership,” said Alan. “Last season was, unfortunately, a start-stop affair for him at Bristol because of injury and sickness, but now back to fitness he is keen and ambitious for what we feel will be a good partnership.”

Looking Ahead

With Jay Tyack back in the fold, the Cornish Pirates are set to strengthen their front row, adding depth and experience to their squad. Fans will be eager to see Jay back in action at The Mennaye, where he hopes to relaunch his career and contribute to what could be a successful season for the Pirates.

Jay’s return marks an important moment for both the player and the club, as they look forward to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the upcoming season.
