Cornwall RLFC Announce Squad for High-Stakes Oldham Clash
Cornwall Squad Set for Home Challenge Against Table-Toppers Oldham
Cornwall RLFC head coach Mike Abbott has named his 21-man squad for Sunday’s Betfred League 1 round nine clash at home against Oldham, with the match set to kick off at 1.00pm. Fresh from their first victory of the season against the Midlands Hurricanes, Cornwall faces a mix of challenges and opportunities as they prepare to host the league leaders.
Injury Woes and Suspensions
The Choughs will be without key players Tom Ashton and Josh Hartshorne, both unavailable for the upcoming match. Adding to the team’s challenges, Morgan Punchard will start the first of his two-game suspension following his send-off in the round eight clash against Rochdale Hornets.
Key Returns Bolster the Squad
On a positive note, Harry Boots returns to the squad after missing the win over the Hurricanes. Courage Mkuhlani also re-joins the team, having been unable to play against his parent club in the last match. A late decision will be made regarding the inclusion of Maltese international Kaine Dimech, who is recovering from an ankle injury.
Abbott’s Take on the Challenge
“Oldham will be tough for us but we will have a dig,” Abbott commented on the team’s website. Reflecting on their recent victory, he added, “We built over a few weeks for the Midlands win and although it was nice to get on the board up in Birmingham last week, we must continue that progression.”
Abbott is aware of the formidable challenge posed by Oldham but remains optimistic. “We know what Oldham are all about but we ran well at their place last month and after the match, they knew they had been in a game with us,” he said.
Home Advantage
After three consecutive away games, Cornwall RLFC is eager to return to their home turf. Abbott emphasised the importance of performing well for their supporters. “And after three games away from home, it will be nice to be back in front of our own fans again. We didn’t show up in our last home game against Midlands so we owe our supporters a performance and if we deliver that, then who knows where that might take us.”
The Squad
The full squad for the Oldham clash includes: Aaronson, C Abbott, Bannister, Black, Boardman, Boots, Brown, Collins, Conroy, Cullen, Dimech, Lloyd, Mitchell, Mkuhlani, Nichol, Rhodes, Rusling, Simpson, Small, and Weetman.
Cornwall RLFC will be looking to build on their recent success and deliver a strong performance against Oldham in front of their home crowd.
