Cornwall RLFC Welcomes New Ownership: Ken Stone Brings Global Rugby Experience
Cornwall RLFC has entered a new era with the announcement that Ken Stone has taken ownership of the club. This significant change brings fresh leadership and a long-term vision to rugby league in Cornwall.
A Global Rugby Background
Ken, who has Cornish roots through his father, born in Redruth, brings over 20 years of international rugby experience. His impressive career spans both rugby league and union, having worked as a player, coach, manager, and executive.
Most recently, Ken served as head coach at the University of Denver for seven years, while also acting as executive director at Rugby Colorado. Before moving to the United States, Ken was director of rugby at the University of Gloucestershire, where he played a pivotal role in developing talent, with several players going on to achieve representative honours and appearances for England Universities.
Ken’s coaching experience includes positions with the England women’s team, as well as the Scotland and Wales student squads. Beyond the pitch, Ken’s background in social work with adults and young people adds a unique perspective to his leadership.
A Strategic Vision for Cornwall RLFC
Ken expressed his gratitude to previous owner Eric Perez for establishing professional rugby league in Cornwall and outlined his plans to build on this foundation.
“I can’t wait to get my teeth into this exciting project, with the establishment of a strong foundation key for the club’s success,” Ken said. “I have a deep and continued passion for rugby league, along with a proven history of transforming clubs and associated culture. I can’t wait to see my vision take hold for this incredible club and county.”
Ken revealed that the club has devised a comprehensive 10-year strategic plan focusing on youth development, fan engagement, and community involvement to create a strong and stable future for the team.
“We’re looking forward to engaging with fans, partners, and the wider local Cornish community,” Ken added. “Together, we’ll build a strong, successful club that One and All can be proud of, thus ensuring long-term security and stability.”
Commercial Partnerships and Future Announcements
The club confirmed that its partnership with Sedulo will continue as part of its commercial portfolio, with further partnership opportunities under consideration. Cornwall RLFC will continue to compete in Betfred League 1, the third tier of professional rugby league in the UK. Home matches will once again take place at the Memorial Ground in Penryn.
In the coming weeks, Cornwall RLFC will announce key appointments both on and off the field to support its new vision.
