From Avalon to Cornwall: Why the Cornish Pirates Are Backing Rory Suttor for a Big Year Ahead
Cornish Pirates sign experienced Australian flanker for 2025/26 season
The Cornish Pirates have confirmed the signing of 26-year-old Australian backrower Rory Suttor ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Originally from Avalon, New South Wales, Rory brings a wealth of international and club-level experience to the Mennaye. A former Australian Schoolboys and under-20s international, Rory is primarily a flanker but is capable of covering all back and second-row positions.
A well-travelled player with top-level experience
Before joining the Pirates, Rory was part of the NSW Waratahs squad and played club rugby in the Shute Shield for Warringah. He also spent time in Europe, turning out for Munster A, UCC Rugby and Lansdowne FC in Ireland, before moving to Italy to play for Centurioni Rugby.
His diverse background and ability to adapt to different playing styles has impressed Cornish Pirates coach Joe Walsh.
“Highly regarded” and ready to make an impact
“Rory is an experienced performer who has played the game in various environments and at a high level,” said Joe.
“In terms of ball carrying he can offer a big threat, plus being someone who has been highly regarded we think he will bring value and balance to our back five.
“We are really excited and looking forward to getting him on board.”
Rory says he’s “absolutely stoked” to join
Rory has also expressed his enthusiasm about joining the Penzance-based club.
“Absolutely stoked to be joining the Pirates next season,” he said. “I can’t wait to get over to Cornwall and add as much as I can to the team. Keen for a really big year ahead at such a great club!”
With pre-season preparations on the horizon, Rory’s arrival is another signal that the Pirates are building towards a strong campaign in 2025/26.
