He Scored on His Debut – But Who Is the Cornish Pirates’ New 6’7” Signing?

The Cornish Pirates have confirmed the signing of 27-year-old lock forward Mike Etete, who made an early impact by scoring a try while guesting in their recent win against the Royal Navy at home.

An Imposing New Arrival

Mike, who stands at 6’7”, joins the Pirates from National 1 side Blackheath. Although primarily a lock, he has also slotted into the back row when required.

Born in the UK, Mike brings a wealth of experience from both domestic and international clubs, having previously played for Bath, Randwick in Australia, and Miami Sharks in the United States.

Positive Signs from the Navy Match

Cornish Pirates coach Joe Walsh was pleased with Mike’s early involvement, commenting:

“Signing Mike gives us the opportunity to bolster the squad with his physical presence. He’s got experience from the past and we are hoping he’ll bring some impressive contact skills.

“His involvement in the Navy game was very positive. He looked good when the game opened up a bit, and he was very comfortable on the ball and running into space.

“As we look forward, we hope he can also impose himself, show more of what he has got, and push for a place in the match day 23.”

Mike will now be looking to cement his place in the Cornish Pirates squad as they continue their campaign.
