Pirates Vets and Helston Vets Rugby Match Raises Funds in Memory of Des and Dave Thomas

A charity rugby match at the Mennaye Field on Sunday 8th June saw Pirates Vets take on Helston Vets in tribute to Des and Dave Thomas, much-loved figures in the local rugby scene.

Match Ends in 41–41 Draw

The game ended in a high-scoring 41 points to 41, with players from both teams putting on a lively and good-spirited performance. While many of those involved were veterans of the sport and, as noted, “old enough to know better,” the energy and humour on the pitch made for a memorable afternoon.

Supporting the Thomas Family

Proceeds from the match and a fundraising auction will go to the Thomas family. Organiser James Tresize and his fellow volunteers were thanked for bringing the event together, as well as all those who took part on and off the field.

The day was marked by strong community spirit, fun and a shared commitment to honouring the memory of Des and Dave.
