The Cornish Pirates have announced that Rebecca Thomas, the club’s CEO and Finance Director, will step down from her operational role at the end of the current season. However, she is set to continue her association with the club by remaining on the Board in an advisory capacity.

Thomas, who joined the Cornish Pirates in 2010, has played a pivotal role in the club’s operations, covering a wide range of responsibilities from finance and commercial partnerships to social media and team management. Her leadership over the past 14 seasons has been instrumental, particularly in guiding the club through challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and uncertainties in the rugby championship’s future.

Reflecting on her tenure, Thomas expressed her deep connection to the club, describing it as her life, passion, and family. She acknowledged the difficulty in stepping away from the day-to-day activities but expressed excitement for new professional challenges ahead. Thomas also extended her gratitude to Dicky Evans for his mentorship and support, as well as to the staff, players, coaches, volunteers, sponsors, supporters, and mentors for their contributions during her time at the club.

Chairman Paul Durkin praised Thomas for her exceptional service as Finance Director and CEO, acknowledging her behind-the-scenes efforts that have significantly eased the Board’s responsibilities. Durkin expressed personal appreciation for Thomas’s support and looked forward to her continued contributions to the Board.

Dicky Evans, also known as Sir Richard Evans, highlighted Thomas’s role in steering the club through financial challenges and her ability to maintain a positive outlook throughout her tenure. He praised her for leaving the club in a strong position, running second in the league, and expressed confidence in her future endeavours.

Thomas’s departure marks the end of an era for the Cornish Pirates, with her leadership leaving a lasting impact on the club’s direction and success. Her commitment to remain involved in an advisory role ensures that her expertise and passion for rugby will continue to benefit the Cornish Pirates in the years to come.
