Tribute to Graham Michell, Former Penzance & Newlyn RFC Player
The Cornish rugby community is remembering former Penzance & Newlyn RFC player Graham Michell, who has sadly passed away at the age of 78.
A Life Rooted in Paul
Born at Kemyell Farm, Paul, Graham lived and worked there for nearly all his life. He was educated at St. Erbyn’s School, where he not only studied but also captained the rugby team.
Nearly 400 Games for the Pirates
As a physically strong scrum half with a sharp, accurate service, Graham made his senior debut for Penzance & Newlyn RFC in 1965. By the end of his last season in 1977-78, he had clocked up nearly 400 appearances for the club.
One of his proudest moments came in 1976, when he was part of the Pirates side that won the Cornwall KO Cup for the very first time, defeating Redruth.
More Than Just Rugby
Graham was also a gifted cricketer and served for many years as a committee member at Paul Cricket Club. His dedication to sport and to his community left a lasting mark both on and off the field.
Funeral Arrangements
Condolences are expressed to Graham’s wife Margaret and family. His funeral will take place at Paul Church at 1.30pm on Thursday 28th August. Following the service, people are invited to attend the Pirates Rugby Club.
