Truro City Sign Ben Starkie on One-Year Deal

Truro City have secured the signing of attacker Ben Starkie on a one-year deal, with the option to extend. The 23-year-old has represented Tanzania at senior level as well as in several age group teams, the country of his mother’s birth.

From Leicester to Germany and Back Again

Ben began his career at his hometown club Leicester City, progressing through the ranks at the King Power Stadium before departing in 2018. He then spent time playing in Germany, later returning to the UK.

Most recently, Ben played the 2024/25 season with Harborough Town, the side that made headlines in last season’s FA Cup. Harborough defeated Truro City’s then National League South rivals Tonbridge Angels 4-1 before drawing League One side Reading.

In a memorable clash in Berkshire, Harborough took the Royals to extra time before losing 5-3, with Ben playing a key role in the cup run.

Trial Turns to Contract

Ben left Harborough earlier this summer and joined Truro City on trial, making four friendly appearances as a trialist before earning a permanent deal at the Truro College Sports Ground.

Speaking to trurocity.co.uk, Ben said:

“I’m buzzing to be here, really excited about this season and really excited to get going with the team.

“Since I’ve been here on trial, the group has been a great group and welcoming. They have made my life easy which isn’t always the case when you are on trial. They have looked after me and they have now helped me settle in.

“I will do my best for the club and being involved in full-time football is something I have been wanting for a long time. I will hope to bring creativity, assists and goals, to help the team push forward, to achieve something this coming season.

“I also want to bring hard work to the table, to perform for the fans and my team mates.”
