Wadebridge Camels 60 – Pirates Amateurs 43
In what proved a high scoring Cornwall KO Cup semi-final match on Saturday, despite defeat the Pirates Amateurs impressed against higher league opponents who play in Regional 2 Tribute South West.
On a bright and sunny afternoon at the Molesworth Field both sides truly shone, and there was much credit to each. Of no surprise the entertainment in the match produced a regular flow of tries, but with the hosts ultimately having the edge and deserving their victory.
Tries for the Camels were scored by wing Jack Counter (2), full-back Owen Wilson (2), hooker Shawn Hartley (2), flanker Charlie Pedlar, and wing Dom Hawkey. They were also awarded a penalty try, whilst Wilson slotted five conversions and a penalty.
For the Pirates tries were scored by centre Josh Semmens (2), lock Ben Martin, man of the match centre Harris Eddy, scrum half and skipper Sam Carter, and full-back Ben Wragg who also kicked five conversions and a penalty.
Commenting after the game, Pirates Amateurs’ head coach Murray Westren said:
“Showing a good attacking side to our game we started the match particularly well. Unfortunately, however, once Wadebridge got some momentum, we were unable to stem their flow, and they were perhaps a little more powerful, and sharper than us. Nonetheless, it was still a wonderful effort against higher league opposition, and an absolutely brilliant game of rugby.”
