Popular winger departs after scoring 30 tries in two standout seasons

Cornish Pirates have confirmed that Matt McNab will be leaving the club at the end of the season to join Doncaster Knights.

Matt, a 26-year-old Zimbabwean international, has been a regular feature for the Pirates over the past two years, making 51 appearances and scoring an impressive 30 tries across all competitions. Known for his power and commitment on the pitch, he has also become a well-liked character off it.

“A big personality who will be missed massively”

Cornish Pirates’ joint head coach Gavin Cattle praised Matt’s contribution during his time in Cornwall:

“Since arriving at the Pirates, Matt immediately showed his strength and ability, and a real commitment both on and off the pitch.

“He is a big personality who will be missed massively, and we would like to thank him for his quite considerable overall contribution. Also, we wish him and his partner Isabelle all the best for the future.”

“The best two years of my rugby career so far”

Reflecting on his departure, Matt said:

“An opportunity came up and is one that would be hard for me to miss out on. It is a sad time though for me to be leaving, as it has been the best two years of my rugby career so far, and I have loved every single minute.

“I can’t thank everyone at the Pirates enough for what they have done for me along the journey. It’s been amazing for my development on the field and in my day-to-day life off it.

“The supporters have been tremendous, I have met a lot of great people, and I have greatly appreciated what the coaches, staff and my fellow teammates have done for me over the last two years. It will stick with me forever.”

Matt’s departure adds to the list of player changes being announced as the season nears its end, with clubs across the league beginning to shape their squads for the next campaign.
