Could You Be the Next Guardian of St. Agnes Head? Volunteer Watchkeepers Wanted!

Published On: 22 April 2024Last Updated: 22 April 2024By

Ever imagined having an office with a panoramic view of the sea, where your daily efforts help safeguard local community members?

NCI St. Agnes Head is currently offering such a unique opportunity, calling for volunteers to become watchkeepers along the picturesque coasts they monitor.

A Legacy of Vigilance

The need for coastal watch emerged in 1994 after the closure of the local coastguard station at Bass Point. What started as a local endeavour has since burgeoned into a network of 60 watch stations scattered across the country. These stations are pivotal in ensuring the safety of those at sea and on the coastal paths.

Volunteering Opportunities Abound

NCI St. Agnes Head is looking to recruit volunteer watchkeepers to help cover daylight hours throughout the year. Volunteers are crucial in observing and reporting potential hazards to fishermen, kayakers, paddle boarders and walkers (with or without four-legged friends) who frequent these areas.

No Experience? No Problem!

The best part about this volunteering opportunity is that no prior experience is required. Comprehensive training is provided to all new recruits ensuring they are prepared and confident to oversee the safety of their fellow community members effectively.

Why Volunteer?

This role is not just about keeping people safe; it’s a chance to give something back to the community, enjoy breathtaking views, and meet a variety of people who share a commitment to safety and service. Whether it’s watching over local fishermen or ensuring a safe passage for tourists exploring the coast paths, your contribution will make a significant difference.

Get Involved!

Interested individuals who wish to learn more about this rewarding role are encouraged to reach out for more information. Please contact Sally at sally.weight@nci.org.uk to express your interest or to ask any questions about the role. Join a proud team of volunteers at NCI St. Agnes Head and make a meaningful impact today.

Fancy a unique volunteering role with a view? Step up to become a watchkeeper at St. Agnes Head and help keep your community safe. It’s more than just a volunteering role; it’s a way to actively participate in and contribute to coastal safety.
