A runner was rescued this afternoon following a fall on the coastal path at St Agnes Head. The St Agnes Coastguard Search & Rescue Team, alongside H.M. Coastguard Portreath Rescue Team, were called to the scene at 12:46 following reports of the incident.

Swift Response on the Scene

Upon arrival, the teams found the South West Ambulance Service already providing essential stabilisation to the injured party. The casualty had suffered from a fall while trail running along the scenic but challenging coastpath.

Teamwork Leads to Safe Evacuation

The rescue operation saw the injured runner carefully transferred onto a lightweight stretcher, specifically designed for such emergencies. A coordinated effort involving a six-person team was required to safely carry the casualty to the awaiting ambulance, ensuring their comfort and safety during the transportation.

The Importance of Preparedness

In a fortunate turn of events, it was noted that the other runners accompanying the casualty had brought along a basic first aid kit, including a foil blanket, which played a crucial role in providing warmth and immediate care to the injured individual before professional help arrived. The St Agnes Coastguard Search & Rescue Team took this opportunity to remind the public of the importance of carrying essential items when running or walking along the coastpath.

A Community Effort

This incident highlights the effectiveness of quick and coordinated responses between different emergency services and the vital role of community awareness and preparedness in ensuring the safety of outdoor activities. The teams involved commend the quick-thinking actions of the other runners and express their wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured runner.

The rescue operation on the 24th of March stands as a testament to the dedication of the local search and rescue teams and the community’s resilience in the face of emergencies.
