Three People Rescued by St Agnes RNLI Near Cligga Head
Three people were rescued on the afternoon of Thursday 25th July by the volunteer crew of St Agnes RNLI Lifeboat after becoming stranded near Cligga Head on Cornwall’s north coast.
The crew were paged by HM Coastguard, Falmouth at 4.07pm following a distress call. Within seven minutes, the D-Class inshore lifeboat was launched and made its way towards the scene.
In slight sea conditions and with good visibility, the crew quickly located the casualties. Two of the individuals were found in a small cove west of Cligga, while the third was clinging to rocks nearby. All three were safely recovered onto the lifeboat, where initial casualty care was provided before heading directly to Perranporth Beach.
Lifeguards Take Over at Perranporth
RNLI lifeguards were radioed ahead to meet the lifeboat, and the casualties were handed into their care on arrival.
On the return journey to Trevaunance Cove, the crew located a kayak used by one of the casualties and brought it back to station. The lifeboat was refuelled and rehoused at 6pm.
Volunteer crew member Laura Penhaul said,
“It is tempting to think that warm weather makes the sea a safer place but sadly that’s not the case. We could tell that they were relieved to see the lifeboat and happily this was a good outcome for everyone involved.”
