St Austell volunteers get stuck in during national clean-up campaign

A local litter picking group in St Austell has made a serious dent in the town’s rubbish problem, collecting more than 66 bags of waste during the Great British Spring Clean.

Over the past two weeks, 49 volunteers from St Austell Tidy Up Team have taken part in organised and ad hoc clean-ups across the area as part of Keep Britain Tidy’s annual campaign. Their efforts included beach cleans and litter picks, both in groups and individually, all aiming to tidy up the town and surrounding areas.

Nationwide clean-up, local impact

The Great British Spring Clean is the country’s biggest mass-action environmental event, and since its launch in 2016, over four million bags of litter have been collected across the UK. St Austell’s contribution this year has been a strong one, with the team running four official community events in the last four weeks, alongside smaller clean-ups fitted in around people’s work schedules.

Each one has helped to remove a massive amount of litter from the local environment – a boost for both the landscape and community pride.

More clean-ups on the way

The St Austell Tidy Up Team confirmed their programme of community litter picks will continue. Anyone who wants to get involved or follow their future events can do so via their Facebook page: facebook.com/StAustellTidyTeam.
