Speed Limit Shake-Up: What’s Next for Bridge, St Columb Major?
Speed Limit Changes Halted – For Now
A planned increase to the speed limit at Bridge, St Columb Major, has been put on hold following discussions between Cornwall Council and local representatives. The original proposal aimed to raise the speed limit from 30mph to 40mph as vehicles approach Bridge from the A39 near Lanhainsworth.
Cornwall Councillor and Mayor of St Columb Major, Paul Wills, confirmed that after meeting with Highways, the decision has been made to maintain the existing 30mph limit. This decision aligns with broader speed limit changes, including the upcoming introduction of a 20mph limit in the town.
Speed Monitoring for a Year
Despite retaining the 30mph limit, Highways plans to monitor vehicle speeds in the area over the next year. If data indicates that drivers continue to exceed the speed limit, the initially proposed 40mph limit may be implemented.
In an email confirming the agreement, Adam from Highways acknowledged differing views on the matter but confirmed the compromise to leave the 30mph limit unchanged for now. He also noted that Cormac has been instructed to proceed accordingly.
Call for Drivers to Adhere to Limits
Paul Wills urged motorists to comply with the current speed limits, emphasising the importance of road safety. With speed monitoring set to take place over the next year, the future of the speed limit in this area depends on drivers’ adherence to existing regulations.
