Caravan Smash-Up and Foodbank Drive: What’s Happening at United Downs Raceway This Sunday?
The United Downs Raceway in St Day is gearing up for a thrilling Mayday Sunday event on 4th May 2025, with a packed programme set to kick off at 1pm. Spectators can expect all the usual high-speed drama – plus a few surprises – as a bonus Caravan Chaos race and the Raceway’s first ever Foodbank Collection are added to the line-up.
Caravans Set to Be Wrecked in Bonus Chaos Race
Traditionally held in the summer, the popular Caravan Chaos event is making an early appearance this year. After the success of two action-packed races in 2024, promoters Autospeed revealed they had been offered a batch of end-of-life caravans – too good an opportunity to miss.
As a result, Mayday Sunday will feature a bonus bout of destruction, with half a dozen (or possibly more) caravans set to be towed to pieces. The event promises to deliver the thrilling spectacle that has made it a firm family favourite at the Raceway.

Foodbank Collection for No One Goes Hungry
Adding to the spirit of the day, United Downs Raceway will also be holding its first Foodbank Collection. Following a March appeal for organisations to get involved, the No One Goes Hungry project in Probus was the first to respond.
Spectators, drivers and officials attending on Sunday have been encouraged to bring along everyday essentials, all of which will be donated to help those in need.
Formula Two Stock Cars Battle for Snell Family Trophy
May marks a significant moment for Formula Two Stock Cars, as new national grades come into play, reshuffling the handicapped starting grids. Among the key changes, teenager Jake Ralfs of Weston Super Mare sees a dramatic elevation to star grade, meaning he moves from the front to almost the back of the grid after scoring race wins at both meetings so far this season.
The drivers will compete for the prestigious Snell Family Trophy, a unique piece of automotive sculpture crafted from components like rev counters and shock absorbers. Sam Weston of Chilton Trinity, Somerset, who won the trophy last year, will be back to defend his title.
With Ben Borthwick of Doublebois – the current Track Championship leader – set to miss Sunday’s action, the door is wide open for his rivals to catch up or even overtake him. Dale Moon of Penwithick, a former Track Champion, is aiming to return after illness sidelined him on Good Friday.

Saloon Stock Cars: Historic Win Sparks New Rivalries
Fresh from a historic first win, Taylor Whitford of Nanpean will be among the drivers looking to build on recent success. Taylor claimed the Western Championship for Saloon Stock Cars over Easter and celebrated by climbing onto the roof of his car.
The entry list also features fellow Cornish driver Bryn Finch of Menheniot, while Archie Brown of East Huntspill – the reigning World, British and English Champion – will headline the field.
Bangers: Teen Sensation Returns After Hat-Trick Debut
Nearly 60 Bangers are signed up for what promises to be a dramatic return to the United Downs Raceway. Teenager Alfie Tomkins of Roche made a huge impact during his debut appearance in March, sweeping to three wins including the feature final, despite a spectacular incident which saw him briefly on two wheels.
