Beach Maintenance Alert: Sand Redistribution Planned at St Ives Slipway
Beach Recycling to Address Sand Buildup at Main Slipway Opposite Sloop Inn
St Ives Harbour Master has announced that ‘beach recycling’ works are scheduled to take place at the main slipway opposite the Sloop Inn on Monday 30th September and Tuesday 1st October. The works aim to address significant sand accumulation that is impacting both the beach and nearby highway.
What is Beach Recycling?
Beach recycling involves relocating sand that has accumulated in one area to sections experiencing erosion within the harbour. This method helps manage sand distribution without removing any material from the harbour or the St Ives Bay sand cell.
Impact on Local Access
The works will affect access to the main slipway and some points leading to the harbour area. Plant machinery will be operating three hours either side of low water on both days, and safety cordons will be in place to separate pedestrians from the working areas. Pedestrians are advised to keep clear of the moving equipment and follow the instructions of the safety marshals present.
Contact Information
For any questions regarding the planned activity, residents and visitors are encouraged to contact the Harbour Master directly at 07933173958.
The St Ives Town Council urges everyone to be mindful of these changes and to plan their visits accordingly to avoid disruptions.
