Weekly Activities Begin 5th February

From Wednesday 5th February, St Ives Leisure Centre is inviting seniors to take part in weekly activity sessions aimed at promoting fitness and social connection. The sessions will run every Wednesday from 10am to 12pm, offering a range of activities tailored to more mature participants.

What’s on the Schedule?

The programme includes a circuits class from 10:15am to 11am, followed by a choice between a senior swim or a game of table tennis from 11am to midday. After the physical activities, attendees can enjoy a hot drink and chat with others.

Who’s Behind the Programme?

The sessions are operated by GLL, a not-for-profit social enterprise running St Ives Leisure Centre under the Better brand on behalf of Cornwall Council.

Karen Edmond, GLL’s Community Sport Manager, highlighted the benefits of staying active in later life. “The benefits of keeping active in our later years are well recognised by health professionals,” Karen said.

She also emphasised the supportive environment the sessions provide. “Those taking part are guided by experienced professionals and, because you’re surrounded by like-minded people, there’s a sense of camaraderie that’s good for the mind as well as the body.

“In my job, I see the difference staying active can make on a daily basis and can heartily recommend these new weekly sessions at St Ives.”

Discounts for Over-66s

Participants aged 66 and over can also take advantage of discounts offered by Better.
