Major Roadworks Set to Slow Traffic Through Halsetown from 12th May
Traffic lights and speed restrictions to be in place as work begins on safety upgrades
Drivers travelling through Halsetown near St Ives are being advised to plan ahead as significant roadworks to reduce traffic speeds and improve pedestrian safety are due to start on Monday, 12th May.
The scheme, which aims to transform travel in and around St Ives, is being funded by the St Ives Low Carbon Transport Strategy and delivered by Cornwall Council in partnership with the St Ives Town Deal Board.
What’s planned for Halsetown?
The works will see new sections of footway installed, alongside additional and refreshed road markings and signage. To encourage drivers to slow down, Vehicle Activated Speed Signs (VAS) will also be introduced, along with other speed reducing measures.
According to Cornwall Council, the improvements are designed to create a safer and more accessible environment for those walking and cycling through the village.
Traffic lights to manage flow during works
Construction will be carried out by Cormac, who confirmed that traffic lights will be in use for the majority of the works to keep both workers and road users safe.
“While we understand the importance of keeping the traffic flowing as well as possible at all times during the construction, we also need to ensure the safety of the teams working on site,” said a Cormac spokesperson.
They added: “We recognise that the works will inevitably cause some temporary disruption to motorists and will be monitoring the traffic closely to ensure traffic flows as smoothly as possible and delays are kept to a minimum.”
Completion planned for early July
Most of the work is expected to be finished by the beginning of July, although resurfacing of Laity Lane will be held back until after the busy summer season.
Further updates on the scheme will be available on the St Ives Low Carbon Transport Strategy page on Let’s Talk Cornwall and the St Ives Town Deal website.
