New Role at Edward Hain Centre In St Ives: Exciting Opportunity for Community-Focused Administrator

Published On: 4 July 2024Last Updated: 4 July 2024By

The Edward Hain Centre in St. Ives is expanding its services and has announced a new position for a Community Centre Administrator.

This 25-hour-a-week role is aimed at supporting the centre’s growing activities and ensuring smooth operations as the calendar fills up with various events and clinics.

From Volunteers to Professional Management

Until now, reception duties at the Edward Hain Centre have been covered by dedicated volunteers. These volunteers have been the first point of contact for visitors attending the Diabetic Eye Clinics, the Friends’ weekly Knit & Natter group, and other occasional clinics, workshops, and community groups. With the centre’s services expanding, the need for a professional administrator has become evident.

Sharron Goldingay, the centre’s manager, expressed the importance of this new role: “We are preparing to enter a new phase of expansion. It’s just the time for us to take on the right person: someone dedicated and enthusiastic, who likes working with people, and ideally is used to working in an office environment, completing administrative tasks as well as practical ones.”

Ideal Candidate Profile

The centre is looking for an individual with strong organisational skills, a good all-round education, and a passion for community work. While experience in a receptionist or administrative role is not mandatory, the successful candidate must be comfortable with computers and proficient in MS Office and Excel. Familiarity with office equipment and some knowledge of QuickBooks is also desirable.

Key qualities sought include strong communication and multitasking skills, and a warm, welcoming manner for managing the front desk and handling enquiries by phone, email, and in person. Duties will involve a range of administrative tasks, from filing and maintaining the office space to accurately inputting and updating information on the centre’s systems.

Flexible Hours Considered

Janette Greenfield, a trustee at the Edward Hain Centre and owner of the Big Barn Day Nursery, mentioned that the role could potentially suit someone with school-age children. “We can’t make any promises about which hours just yet,” she said, “However, it is something we have discussed as a board and are definitely willing to consider.”

How to Apply

For those interested in this exciting opportunity, a full job description is available in a downloadable PDF on the Centre’s website at edwardhaincentre.org.uk under the “Latest News” heading. This document contains all the necessary information on how and where to apply.

The Edward Hain Centre is looking forward to welcoming a new member to their team who will contribute to their mission of providing valuable health and wellbeing services to the community.
