Pre-Easter pre-loved sale at the Edward Hain Centre

Huge variety of donated items, raffle prizes and refreshments at this Saturday’s community fundraiser

A bumper haul of second-hand goods will be up for grabs at the Edward Hain Centre in St Ives this Saturday, 12th April, as the Friends of the Edward Hain Centre host a Pre-Easter pre-loved sale.

Running from 10am to 2pm at the Albany Terrace site, the event was originally planned as a small sale offering new and gently-used clothing and accessories. But as donations kept rolling in, the scale of the sale quickly expanded — and so did the variety of items available.

“People’s generosity is incredible,” said Edward Hain Centre trustee Kit Hain Grindstaff, great-niece of the young WWI captain in whose memory the original hospital was founded. “I find it so moving that so many are eager to help. You should see the amount that’s come in!”

What you’ll find

Shoppers can expect a wide selection of women’s, men’s and children’s clothing, along with shoes, hats, jewellery, toys, books, small electrical goods, and “so much more,” according to the Friends, who are busy sorting and pricing the ever-growing collection.

Raffle prizes and refreshments

There will also be refreshments available on the day — and if previous Friends’ Coffee Mornings are anything to go by, they’ll be well worth stopping for.

A raffle will be running throughout the event, featuring three eye-catching Easter baskets donated by Margaret Sobey of Sweet Williams Florist in Carbis Bay. Tickets are £1 each, available on the day at the Centre or in advance from Blew St. Ives hair salon in Gwel an Wheal.

Supporting the centre’s future

The event is more than just a chance to find a bargain — it’s helping to secure the future of the Edward Hain Centre. Many may not realise the building is under a £400,000 mortgage, taken out to meet the NHS’s purchase price.

“We couldn’t manage without them,” Kit said, referring to the work of the Friends group whose fundraising supports the Centre’s monthly repayments.

Even if you’re not in the market for anything new, the pre-loved sale is a great excuse to pop in, catch up with the community and see how the Centre has developed.
