Sea Shanties Set to Fill St Ives as 9th Shanty Shout Returns
The sounds of the sea will echo through St Ives next month as around 30 groups from Cornwall and beyond gather for the 9th St Ives Shanty Shout, taking place on 21st and 22nd November 2025.
Songs of the Sea
Visitors can expect an unforgettable weekend of music celebrating tales from the days of sail alongside modern songs of work and love in seaside towns. Among the returning performers are Kimber’s Men, known for their powerful and poignant harmonies.
Groups from across Cornwall, many of whom return year after year, will perform throughout the town in popular venues including The Bier Huis Grand Cafe, Harbour View House, The Pilchard Press, The Lifeboat Inn, The Queen’s Hotel, and The Western Hotel.
New Venues Join the Line-Up
This year, the Shout welcomes back Pedn Olva, Sea of Coffee, and Tretho Lounge, while introducing new venues The Rum & Crab Shack and The Golden Lion. Each will be filled with rousing tunes and lyrical stories of the sea. If one venue is full, another will be just a short walk away.
Supporting a Local Cause
Festival-goers are encouraged to donate generously to support local charity The Edward Hain Centre, which focuses on health and wellbeing. Betty, known as Cornwall’s Charity Maid, will be out and about helping with fundraising efforts.
A Relaxed End to the Festival Season
Described as the “last festival of the year” for many shanty groups, the weekend offers a chance for singers and visitors to reconnect and enjoy the music in a relaxed setting. The event’s informal evening “Shouts” invite anyone who wishes to join in the singing, creating an atmosphere filled with camaraderie and song.
