St Ives Co-op Store Set To Reopen After Six-Week Improvement Program
Great news for the local community and tourists alike: the Co-op in St Ives is set to reopen its store in Royal Square, this week following a comprehensive six-week program of improvements. The reopening, scheduled for Friday, 16 February, promises enhanced shopping experiences with the store operating daily from 7 am to 11 pm and supporting 12 local jobs.
As one of the three Co-op locations in St Ives, alongside those in The Stennack and Tregenna Place, the Royal Square store is strategically designed to cater to the needs of both the local community and visitors. Spanning nearly 2,000 square feet, the store boasts a range of features aimed at providing convenience and quality to its customers. These include an in-store bakery and a focus on fresh, healthy products, meal ideas, everyday essentials, food-to-go, chilled beers, award-winning wines, ready meals, pizzas, and an array of free-from, vegan, and plant-based products.
In response to the growing demand for quick and efficient service, the store has introduced self-scan tills to expedite the checkout process, especially during peak times. Additionally, a soft plastic recycle unit has been installed to facilitate the recycling of various soft plastics, including crisp packets, bread bags, lids from ready meals and yogurt pots, biscuit wrappers, and pet food pouches. This initiative underscores Co-op’s commitment to sustainability, ensuring that all of its own food packaging is recyclable either through council curbside collections or the in-store recycling unit.
The store has also seen enhancements in its back-of-shop storage and warehousing to improve product availability and operational resilience. Moreover, Co-op continues to offer the convenience of online grocery home delivery from its St Ives stores, covering a 10-mile radius. Orders placed through the Co-op’s online shop are picked fresh in-store and delivered swiftly, adding to the convenience offered to residents and visitors in the area.
Liam Douglas, the Store Manager, expressed enthusiasm about the reopening, emphasising the team’s commitment to serving and supporting the community and visitors. He highlighted the store’s aim to be at the heart of local life by enhancing the range, choice, and added services to create a compelling and convenient shopping experience. This also includes a focus on delivering value to Co-op’s member-owners, ensuring they benefit every time they shop.
The Co-op, one of the world’s largest consumer-owned cooperatives, offers its members not only a stake in the business but also a range of benefits, including member-only pricing on everyday essentials and personalised offers through the Co-op Membership app. Following its tradition of offering value to its members, Co-op recently introduced a new round of member prices within its Food business, marking a significant investment in convenience pricing.
