St Ives Crackdown: Proposed Rules to Curb Anti-Social Behaviour
Cornwall Council Targets Anti-Social Behaviour in St Ives
Cornwall Council, in collaboration with St Ives Town Council, is set to introduce a new Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) aimed at tackling various forms of anti-social behaviour within St Ives. The proposed order, which falls under section 59 of the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, outlines specific activities that will be regulated within the town.
What the Order Aims to Control
The draft PSPO targets several activities that have been identified as contributing to public nuisance in St Ives. These include:
a. The stationing of advertising boards or other structures being used as such.
b. Soliciting or touting for business and the distribution of free literature.
c. Loitering for the purposes of hair braiding or applying henna tattoos.
d. Placing of tables, chairs, stands and other fixings / furniture on the street (not associated with a business, which is covered under other licensing).
Public Consultation Now Open
It’s important to note that this order has not yet been finalised and is currently in the draft stage. Cornwall Council has opened the draft for public consultation, inviting residents and stakeholders to review the proposed text and share their feedback.
Anyone wishing to comment on the draft PSPO or obtain a copy of the document can do so by contacting the Corporate & Information Governance Team at Cornwall Council. Submissions must be made by 12:00 pm on 14th October 2024.

This move by Cornwall Council, in conjunction with St Ives Town Council, reflects an ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for both residents and visitors in St Ives.
