The Lafrowda Club Seeks Volunteers for Fundraising Subcommittee

Published On: 14 February 2024Last Updated: 14 February 2024By

The Lafrowda Club, a cornerstone of community engagement and cultural history in St Just, is calling for experienced volunteers to join its fundraising subcommittee. The club aims to revitalise its facilities and programming, enhancing its role as a vital local asset.

Established in 1847 as the St Just Literary Institute, The Lafrowda Club originally served as an educational pillar, offering lectures, a library, and various societies aimed at enriching the community’s knowledge and cultural engagement. Over the years, it transitioned into The Lafrowda Club and billiard hall in 1896, hosting numerous societies and serving as a meeting place for many St Just organisations.

The fundraising subcommittee is seeking individuals with a background in writing bids and organising fundraising events, including event management, bar, and door work, to support the club’s ambitious plans. From March, the club anticipates unveiling its newly renovated hall, equipped with advanced events technology, and obtaining full licensing and PRS approval to host a variety of events throughout the year.

This initiative is part of a broader effort by a dedicated committee of local residents to restore the club’s grandeur and develop it into a significant community asset. The committee is committed to engaging the community in shaping the future use of the building, honouring its historical significance while adapting to contemporary needs.

Prospective volunteers are encouraged to contribute their skills and passion to help The Lafrowda Club reach its fundraising goals and continue its legacy of community service and cultural enrichment. Interested parties can contact the club via Facebook message, email at Lafrowda.club@gmail.com, or phone at 07886988152 for more information on joining the effort. Visit the website here.

The revival of The Lafrowda Club represents a bridge between its storied past and a vibrant future, promising to enrich the St Just community with cultural and educational events in a historically significant setting.
