Police Continue Murder Investigation in Sticker After Re-Arrest
Dense woodland, bad weather and new evidence deepen mystery near St Austell
Specialist officers remain at the scene in Sticker, near St Austell, as detectives continue a complex murder investigation in Mid Cornwall.
Police confirmed on Saturday night, 5th July, that a 39-year-old local man was re-arrested on suspicion of murder. He had previously been released on police bail on Friday 4th July, but new information has since come to light, prompting detectives to take further action. He remains in police custody.
The ongoing search effort is focused on woodland in Sticker, where officers are continuing enquiries in relation to a missing person.
Woman on Bail as Enquiries Continue
A woman in her 30s from Newquay, who was arrested last week on suspicion of murder, remains on police bail as the investigation progresses.
Detective Superintendent Jon Bancroft described the operation as “a complex investigation and a challenging environment” due to the dense woodland and difficult weather. He added, “We are being very careful and using the very best forensic and scientific advice from specialist officers to ensure every line of enquiry is thoroughly exhausted.”
He also acknowledged the impact on the local area, stating, “We are working very hard to resolve this as quickly as possible and appreciate the impact it is having on the local community. A large police presence will remain in the Sticker area into this week.”
Appeal for Caution Online
Jon urged the public to avoid speculation on social media, warning that it could “negatively impact our enquiries and investigation.”
The family of the missing man have been informed of the latest developments.
