One Moment for One Crew: The Lizard RNLI Volunteers Capture a Historic Moment
On Thursday, 1st August, volunteers from The Lizard RNLI Lifeboat Station participated in a significant nationwide event titled “One Moment for One Crew.” This event, which brought together RNLI teams from across the UK and Ireland, was organised to commemorate the RNLI’s 200th anniversary by capturing a photographic moment of the lifesaving charity’s dedicated volunteers and staff.
A Snapshot in Time
The RNLI, founded in 1824, asked its members to take photos of themselves, their crews, or their teams at 18:24 on 1st August 2024, or as close to that time as possible. This initiative aimed to create a photographic record of the diverse roles played by the charity’s volunteers and staff in saving lives at sea.
At The Lizard RNLI Lifeboat Station, the team came together for their photograph in a sunny spot by the winch house. This moment was part of a wider effort that saw lifeguards on beaches, fundraisers at events, and volunteers in museums all taking part, each capturing a unique snapshot of their involvement with the RNLI.
Celebrating 200 Years of Saving Lives
The RNLI, which celebrated its 200th anniversary on 4th March this year, has organised several events to mark this milestone, with “One Moment for One Crew” being a standout highlight. Since its inception, the RNLI’s volunteer crews and lifeguards have saved over 146,000 lives, an average of two lives every day for 200 years.
For The Lizard RNLI, being part of this nationwide event was an honour, reflecting their ongoing commitment to the RNLI’s mission. The photos taken during this momentous event will not only celebrate the charity’s rich history but also serve as a lasting tribute to the dedication and bravery of those who continue to serve.
The Lizard RNLI Lifeboat Station, along with their colleagues across the UK and Ireland, has played a vital role in the RNLI’s lifesaving work. As the charity continues its mission, the images captured during “One Moment for One Crew” will stand as a powerful reminder of the unwavering dedication of its volunteers and staff.
