RNLB Rose Returns Home – The Lizard’s Lifeboat Back After Five-Month Refit
After a five-month absence, The Lizard RNLI Lifeboat, RNLB Rose, has finally returned home to Kilcobben Cove following a scheduled service and refit at the All-weather Lifeboat Centre in Poole.
A Long Journey Home
Coxswain Phil Woodcock and his crew travelled to Poole on Wednesday morning to bring Rose back to Cornwall. The lifeboat made an overnight stop in Salcombe before continuing its journey home.
Earlier today, the relief Tamar-class lifeboat, RNLB Edward and Barbara Prigmore, launched under the command of Relief Coxswain Amy Smith. Amy and her crew met RNLB Rose in Falmouth, where they transferred equipment and crew before the final leg of the passage to The Lizard.
“A Momentous Occasion”
Reflecting on the return, The Lizard Lifeboat Operations Manager, Ned Nuzum, described the moment as a significant one for the station.
“The long-awaited return of our beloved all-weather lifeboat Rose today has been a momentous occasion for us all to witness. Seeing her come into view as she passaged her way home was a delightful sight for everyone present. Five months has been a long wait, but an essential one assuring her readiness for many years to come and our confidence in all that we throw at her, in our eternal mission, saving lives at sea.”
Upon arrival, RNLB Rose was rehoused, refuelled, and made ready for service, ensuring she is prepared to respond whenever needed.
Welcome home, Rose! 🛟🧡
