Young Hero Walks 120 Miles and Gets an Unforgettable Reward at The Lizard Lifeboat Station
The Lizard Lifeboat Station witnessed a touching moment as 11-year-old Bill, a devoted supporter of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), received a well-deserved surprise for his outstanding efforts. Bill had been visiting the station to watch the crew launch an exercise, unaware of the recognition that awaited him.
A Remarkable Achievement
Throughout May, Bill had dedicated himself to walking a mile each day as part of the RNLI’s MayDay Mile challenge. His incredible commitment saw him cover a total of 120 miles and raise over £560 for the charity he holds dear. Accompanied by his parents, Bill was invited for what seemed to be a routine tour of the RNLB Rose by Second Mechanic Johnny Bray, just before the launch.

An Unexpected Honour
Bill eagerly accepted the invitation, helping Johnny prepare the lifeboat for its launch. After stepping back onto the gantry to observe the launch, Bill was called back onto the lifeboat. There, he joined the crew and Second Coxswain Darren Thirlaway, who presented him with a medal and certificate in recognition of his remarkable achievement.
Bill’s dedication and passion for the RNLI have left a lasting impression on everyone at The Lizard Lifeboat Station. His ambition to one day be part of the RNLI shines through his actions, and the station, along with the entire RNLI, could not be prouder of him.
Well done, Bill! Your hard work and dedication are an inspiration to us all.
