Art Exhibition in Torpoint to Explore Domestic Abuse and Healing Through Visual Work by Local Artist Red
Exhibition Opens This Week in St James Church
A powerful new art exhibition titled We Learnt to Fly opens this week in Torpoint, exploring myths and realities surrounding domestic abuse through the eyes of local artist Red.
Running from 26th to 28th July, the exhibition will be open daily from 10am to 2pm at St James Church, Salamanca Street, Torpoint PL11 2BE. Entry is free and open to all.
Meet-the-Artist Talk: 25th July
A special event will be held the evening before the exhibition opens, on 25th July, from 7pm to 9pm, also at St James Church.
The evening will include:

A talk at 7:30pm, followed by a Q&A

Visual art by the artist Red
-
Poetry by another survivor, also called Red
-
Contributions from Biddy, co-founder of Becoming Arethusa CIC
The event aims to offer space for reflection and discussion on how art and community can challenge domestic abuse narratives, and how individuals can seek professional support for themselves or others. Refreshments will be available and entry is free.
A Space for Truth and Healing
We Learnt to Fly invites viewers into a bold and hopeful space for collective healing and truth-telling. The exhibition addresses harmful myths around domestic abuse and serves as a space for those looking to understand, support, or seek help.
About Becoming Arethusa CIC
The exhibition is supported by Becoming Arethusa CIC, a community interest company co-founded by Red and Biddy. The organisation provides clinical art therapy and creative expression for women who have experienced domestic abuse.
Becoming Arethusa champions survivor-led narratives, working to influence systems like the family courts through partnerships with organisations including:
