MyCoast App: Your Guide to Safe and Enjoyable Beach Days in Cornwall
The free MyCoast beach information app has been launched across all 60 RNLI-lifeguarded beaches in Cornwall, offering users real-time information and built-in safety parameters provided by the RNLI.
The app aims to direct visitors away from beaches with unsuitable conditions while providing all the relevant information needed for a perfect day out on the Cornish coast.
A Safer Way to Enjoy Cornwall’s Beaches
Developed in collaboration with the RNLI and several leading partners, MyCoast allows users to plan better and safer beach days. Users can select their activities for the day, add whether they are bringing children or have accessibility needs, and choose amenities such as parking, toilets, or food and drink options. The app’s complex engine then analyses these requirements along with weather, water quality, sea conditions, and RNLI safety parameters to display the most suitable beaches.
Unique Features and Endorsements
MyCoast stands out as the only app to integrate real-time data with RNLI safety parameters and detailed geolocated facilities information. Users can navigate to these facilities directly from the app. The app, developed with unique datasets from global information partners, has been endorsed by Surf Life Saving Great Britain, the #Stop Drowning Above Water Charity, Cornwall Council, and Visit Cornwall.
Reducing Incidents and Enhancing Confidence
With an average of 15 drownings along the Cornish coast each year, it is hoped that MyCoast will help reduce the number of avoidable incidents by guiding visitors to the safest beaches for their needs. Jo Murray, founder of MyCoast, shared her personal motivation behind the app’s creation. Frustrated with the difficulties of safely taking her family to the beach, Jo was determined to provide a solution that reduces risk and stress by offering a single point of beach information.
“MyCoast was born from my personal frustrations at simply wanting to safely take my family to the beach. After several failed attempts, I soon lost my confidence to explore parts of Cornwall and going to the beach became a stressful prospect. I was determined to drive change, enabling people to ‘know before they go’,” Jo explained.
Freedom to Explore with Confidence
Whether users want to surf, swim, paddleboard, take the children, walk the dogs, grab a bite to eat, or enjoy a BBQ, MyCoast will show the best beaches to head to that day. Free to download, the app provides the freedom to confidently explore the Cornish coastline whenever and however one chooses. Future updates, including the addition of real-time busy-ness data, are already in the works, promising to further revolutionise beach visits.
MyCoast is available for download now, aiming to make beach visits safer and more enjoyable for everyone.
