Free Bus Travel for Veterans and Armed Forces Personnel on Remembrance Sunday and Monday
Local bus operator First South is providing free bus travel across its network for all UK Armed Forces personnel, veterans, and cadets heading to Remembrance activities on Sunday 10th and Monday 11th November. This free travel will cover routes in several regions, including Cornwall, Somerset, Dorset, Hampshire, and Berkshire.
With routes operated under names like First Solent, First Wessex, Buses of Somerset, Cornwall by Kernow, and Beeline, First South is extending its services as a show of support for the Armed Forces community. By offering free travel, the bus company aims to make attending commemorative events easier for those who served and sacrificed.
How to Access Free Travel
To claim the free travel, veterans, active personnel, and cadets simply need to show an Armed Forces ID, wear medals, or be in uniform. This small requirement ensures all who attend can be recognised and remembered.
Observing the 2-Minute Silence
In a mark of respect, Cornwall by Kernow noted that bus drivers may pull over at 11 am on Sunday to observe the two-minute silence. Passengers are kindly asked for patience if they are on board during this solemn moment.
Honouring Sacrifice
James Eustace, Commercial Director for First South, said, “We want to make bus travel to and from Remembrance events as easy as possible for people who are attending. Across First Bus South a number of our colleagues are veterans, particularly in areas where we operate with strong military connections such as Portsmouth and Falmouth. We’re very proud of them, and this also is our way of also saying thank you to them, as well as honouring our armed forces.”
James highlighted the importance of these events as “important and solemn reminders of the sacrifices made by so many in our armed forces.” Through free travel, First South aims to support and remember those who have served and those who continue to serve.
This initiative underscores First South’s commitment to the armed forces, offering veterans and personnel the means to participate in events of remembrance throughout the area.
